Irish buyers should distinguish the specialist’s fitted terry cover from Dunnes Stores’ filled protector and verify actual dimensions. The specialist also has conflicting shipping wording. A buying guide is more useful here than treating an unselected range and a filled retailer product as equivalent offers.
Scope: Ordinary adult household mattress covers. This guide does not recommend infant sleep products, clinical incontinence equipment or compatibility with electric blankets. A thin protector, padded cover and zipped encasement are different products.

Named options and evidence limits
Mattress Protector Company Ireland — Waterproof Bed Cover
The page displays an unselected EUR 54–74 range. Options include Double 137 × 190 × 30 cm and Queen 152 × 203 × 46 cm. It describes an 80% cotton terry top and TPU backing.
Limitation: No price was confirmed for a selected size and colour. A banner advertises free delivery at EUR 75+ and 5–7 days, while the FAQ says free standard delivery in 3–5 business days without that threshold. Ask for a written shipping quote and current return conditions; do not rely on either delivery statement as confirmed.
Dunnes Stores — Waterproof Anti-Allergy Mattress Protector, 7553464
Dunnes lists a cotton face, polyester back with PU lamination, polypropylene lining and polyester filling. Its Double is 135 × 190 cm; King is 150 × 200 cm. The page shows EUR 15 before size selection, with 40°C washing and low tumble drying instructions.
Limitation: The displayed EUR 15 is not confirmed for every size. Maximum mattress depth was not established. Anti-allergy is part of the retailer’s product name, not an independently verified health finding in this guide.
The Dunnes construction includes filling, whereas the specialist describes a terry surface over a membrane. Decide whether you want a filled layer before comparing costs. Dunnes King measurements also differ from the specialist Queen label: neither name substitutes for checking the mattress. Resolve the specialist’s conflicting shipping threshold before assuming a EUR 54–74 item includes delivery.
Checks before choosing
Measure the mattress, not just its size name
Write down width, length and depth, including any topper that will sit inside the cover. Ask whether the listed depth is the maximum mattress height or the unstretched skirt dimension. Compare actual numbers before selecting a Queen, Double or King label. Where a size selector contradicts the general fit description, obtain written confirmation for your measurements before ordering.
Choose the construction you actually need
A fitted protector wraps over the mattress like a sheet. A padded protector adds a filling layer; a zipped encasement closes differently. These formats should not be treated as equivalent simply because all use the word protector. Ask which surfaces carry the barrier, how the seams are constructed and whether the underside is enclosed. Do not infer complete enclosure or pest control from a fitted skirt.
Read each material and care declaration
The top fabric, backing, filling and skirt can have different compositions. Cotton on the face does not mean an entirely cotton product, and bamboo wording alone does not establish fibre percentages. Obtain the supplied care label: some examples below allow low tumble drying while others prohibit it. Do not transfer one brand’s instructions to another. No wash-durability or waterproofing test was performed for this guide.
Clarify warranty, returns and buying costs
Before opening or washing the item, confirm the return conditions, deadline, return address and who pays postage. Ask for the written warranty and its exclusions, including whether it covers only the protector or any consequential mattress damage. Add delivery and any disclosed import charges to the selected item price. A country-domain name alone does not establish domestic dispatch or a local return address.
Get an address-specific offer
Ask for a written total in EUR identifying the selected size, colour and included pieces. Record any separate shipping charge, tax or import-cost treatment, dispatch origin, return address and warranty exclusions. Missing details here are unverified, not a finding that a seller provides no warranty or returns. Where no current offer could be read, the source is explicitly an enquiry or catalogue reference, not a confirmed in-stock option.
Is an Irish King automatically the specialist’s Queen?
No. The named records give different dimensions. Compare measured width, length and the seller-confirmed usable depth, not an assumed conversion between the names.
Methodology and limitations
We checked the repository’s MattressProtector country inventory, then primary retailer or specialist records relevant to Ireland. We used the approved non-ranking buying-guide format because complete product equivalence, selected-variant offers or specialist specifications were not sufficiently established. This selected-source guide is not an exhaustive market survey. Retailer claims are attributed and source-access limitations are visible; overseas prices are not ranked as local offers.
No hands-on testing, scoring, certification, safety assessment or performance ranking was performed. Testimonials and ratings are not findings. Item prices are dated observations, not guaranteed checkout totals. No cheapest-product, cooling, health, allergy-suitability or lifespan claim is made. We have not contacted sellers or submitted forms, orders or payments.
